Casting

Casting

Making Vermicular cast iron requires the highest standards of care, and it all starts with casting. Our proprietary alloy of graphite iron and 13 other metals are melted at 2700ºF and carefully poured into sand molds, controlling for temperature and speed at all times. Once cooled, the pots are thoroughly hand-polished by our craftspeople one by one.

Precision Machining

Precision Machining

Once cast, the pot and lid are then precision machined. Our craftspeople make critical adjustments based on a lifetime of experience and honed intuition to achieve a precision seal that fits at less than 0.01 mm of variance. Hand-machining with extreme accuracy requires listening for unique sound signatures and feeling for specific vibrations in the cast iron.

Enamel Coating

Enamel Coating

The final step of applying the enamel glaze involves hand-spraying, drying, hand-finishing, and baking each piece at 1500ºF a total of three times. Uniformly coating each piece involves adjusting for many variables that affect the application process, including the temperature and humidity of that day.
