Casting

Casting

Manufacturing a cast iron pot as thin as 1.8 millimeters—less than half the thickness of cast iron pots on the market—demands the highest standards of precision, beginning with the casting process. Our proprietary alloy of graphite iron and 13 other metals is melted at 2700ºF and carefully poured into sand molds, with temperature and speed meticulously controlled at every step. Once cooled, each pot is hand-polished by our craftspeople to ensure exceptional quality in every piece.

Precision Machining

Precision Machining

Once cast, the rims of the pot and lid are precision machined. Our craftspeople make critical adjustments drawing on years of expertise and finely tuned intuition to achieve a precision seal with less than 0.01 mm of variance. Hand-machining with extreme accuracy requires listening for unique sound signatures and feeling for specific vibrations in the cast iron.

Enamel Coating

Enamel Coating

The final step of applying the enamel glaze involves hand-spraying, drying, hand-finishing, and baking each piece at 1500ºF a total of three times. Achieving a uniform coating requires adjusting for numerous variables that affect the application process, including the temperature and humidity of the day.
